EXECUTIVE MAYOR MOKGANYETJI CONCLUDES WEEKLONG WORKING VISITS TO TWO PROVINCES.

The Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality Cllr Maleke Mokganyetji concluded a weeklong working visit to the BRICS Urbanization Forum held in Durban, KwaZulu Natal from the 26 – 27 July 2023, and the opening ceremony of the Netball World Cup held in Cape Town, Western Cape on the 28th of July 2023.

BRICS URBANISATION FORUM

Cllr Mokganyetji joined the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Ms. Thembisile Nkadimeng and other high-level delegations from BRICS countries as they deliberated on strategies to strengthen resilience for sustainable development, building urban water resilience in both villages and towns and sustainable human settlement and alternative infrastructure approaches.

Executive Mayor Mokganyetji held bilateral with all BRICS representatives, the main objective was to establish relationships and partnerships with BRICS countries to open opportunities for people of the district in mining, agriculture, and tourism sectors.

“I had fruitful engagements with all BRICS representatives on the sideline, with the main purpose being to lobby them to encourage their citizens to visit out district and learn more about our rich heritage and cultural diversity. I also held productive meetings with the Chinese delegation to share best practices in building sustainable infrastructure development, in particular bulk water supply and growing the economy. The objective here is to open economic opportunities for our people to also market and sell their products in the BRICS countries. Together these emerging markets represent 42% of the world’s population and jointly account for over 31% of the world’s Gross Domestic Product. Said Executive Mayor Mokganyetji.

NETBALL WORLD CUP OPENING CEREMONY

The Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality Cllr Maleke Mokganyetji honoured an invitation from the Netball South Africa President Ms. Cecilia Molokwane to the opening of the 2023 Netball World Cup.

The objective of honoring the invite was to advocate for more resources to be channeled to rural districts and municipalities to elevate the sport of netball amongst young girls.

“Our mission for attending the opening ceremony of the 2023 netball world cup is to simply say to the people at the helm that we as rural districts and municipalities matter too. We are here to advocate for more resource to be channeled to schools and grassroots level academies to harness the talent of our young girls to also participate fully in the sport of netball. We wish and believe that the next captain of the South African National Netball team to come from our district municipality. The potential is there, we just need to cultivate it and give it direction”. Said Cllr Mokganyetji.
